“Lets just shoot to Oamaru Andy and look at Waitaki Boys High School where my grandfather (Russell Darragh) went to college, then we will head through to Timaru as planned,” I suggested.
But then… we discovered an incredible side to Oamaru that we didn’t know existed!

We are staying two nights now as this place is magical, homely, friendly and creative with history galore.

We feel like we’ve been taken to another world and stepped back in time in historic Oamaru.

This place is ornate, carved and built out of Oamaru stone which is timeless.

Oamaru has two sides to it, one is Victorian, this weekend is their Victorian weekend and in May they are celebrating Steam Punk with a festival. We went along to the Steam Punk museum and got educated.

Juju got dressed up Steampunk style and Andy took a few snaps, $5 was all that cost to dress up, and so much fun was had.

Tonight we are going to watch the little blue penguins come in, there were 350 two nights ago as they are nesting and mating again and boy are they noisy.
The camping ground we are staying at has a few shoot up here at night and nest, we listened to them until about midnight making there very loud noises, a big noise for a little penguin.
